Things To Do In Almondbury

Almondbury is a go to destination for health with offerings including beauty treatments from 3 salons; a dentist; opticians; chiropractor; GP surgery; and no less than 6 hairdressers … plus you can pamper your pet pooch at the dog grooming parlour.

To improve your mind we have a lovely new library with a range of activities including a local history group as well as a Men's group. There are several schools including King James’s School that was founded in 1547.

We have 2 cricket clubs, a swimming pool and 2 green grass bowling clubs. Walks in and around the village, not to mention the nearby hills, will keep you fit! With 3 churches in the village, including All Hallows, we can also help feed the soul. But if that is not enough then join us for live music events at a range of venues. We even have our own annual Jazz festival.

The fabulous food from our independent shops will fill you with pleasure. We have an award winning butcher and a fabulous bakery There are convenience stores, a gift shop, a trophy shop, a designer dress agency, 2 florists, newsagents and shops supporting local charities. And after all that if you fancy a well earned drink we are blessed with several drinking establishments. Our fabulous eateries include the lovely community café, Ambrys, who give back to the community through grants for local community projects.

And on a slightly quirky note we even have our own Blue police box - yes the one that looks like a Tardis - situated on Northgate. The timber box is thought to date from the 1920-30s and was renovated in 2017.

The boxes were originally used by officers on the beat to report to headquarters and for people to make emergency calls. It is no longer in use but is a quaint reminder of bygone days and according to a West Yorkshire Police spokesman: "It's back where it's meant to be".

There really is something for all tastes in Almondbury. We look forward to seeing you soon.

In more recent times Almondbury has become known for it's beautiful and historic buildings; it's superb location offering easy access to open countryside and Huddersfield town centre alike; and as a popular destination for live music events. November 2019 once again saw the village come alive to the sound of Jazz as 5 local venues offer an unparalleled range of live jazz music.
